Being a Japanese teacher by day, Gyozas are one of my favourite foods. I picked up some pork mince which was on sale so decided to make these. This is my spin on the traditional recipes.
I had to use won ton wrappers as I couldn’t get Gyozas wrappers at the time.
Ingredients:
1kg pork mince
1/8 of a sugar loaf cabbage finely shredded
6 large mushrooms diced
2 stems of spring onions diced finely
4 – 6 cloves of garlic minced
2cm piece of ginger grated
1 heaped tablespoon veggie dip mix
3 tablespoons soy sauce
Salt and white pepper to taste
Method:
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl until well combined.
Take a wrapper and place approximately 1 teaspoon of mixture in the centre. Wet the edge with water and fold into your desired shape.
Steam or boil until filling is cooked. I cooked mine in the rice cooker lined with baking paper. Took about 20 mins
Now as I had 1kg of mince, I decided to freeze some for next time and also decided to make some meatballs. I coated these in sesame seeds and steamed them the same way. You could however bake these too.
This recipe can be pre prepared and then frozen for a simple dinner.
Happy cooking Ren
