Pea & Ham Soup

We purchased a beautiful ham hock from our friends who run an amazing business Piggy In The Middle

Had to get hubby to purchase some green split peas while he was at the shops. I sent him a text message with a photo to help him out. About 30 minutes later, I received a phone call from him!

“Hey Bub, I’m in the frozen peas section and I can’t find the split peas, will frozen peas do?”

I had to contain my laughter and explain split peas are located in the soup aisle 😂😂😂

Here is my simple recipe for the slow cooker😀

Ingredients:

1 smoked ham hock approx. 750g
1 onion, diced
2-3 carrots, diced
1-2 stalks of celery, (I didn’t have any so used zucchini)
2.5L of water
500g green split peas, washed well
1 tablespoon Moussaka spice
3 cloves of garlic, sliced
Salt and pepper to taste

Method:

Place all ingredients in slow cooker and cook on high for 4-5 hours. Shred ham hock meat and serve.

Tip: Purée soup using a stick blender to hide the veiges from the kids.

Happy cooking.

Love the sounds of the pea and ham soup. What else could you try instead of Moussaka spice??
    Thanks, Lisa

I would pop in some fresh herbs if you have it or even dried mixed herbs
